Eh? Skype is free. What would a 'cracked' version offer?

I used voipbuster for a bit quite a while ago which offered free calls to landlines but you needed €10 credit to begin with. A few others did the same, I think they were sister companies. Read Martin's articles on it. As for mobiles, you've absolutely no chance.

Not free calls to mobiles, but 300 mins per week to landlines:

    https://www.voipdiscount.com 120 days
    https://www.voipstunt.com 120 days
    https://www.voipcheap.com 90 days.

Though €10 credit (which isn't lost on free calls).

VoIPCheap have OK rates to UK mobiles (did the last time I looked).

VoIP.co.uk £20 for the year gives free calls to landlines at evening and weekend (each call free for 60 mins) and daytime calls are 2p for 60 mins.

    Though not free mobiles.

The call termination fee on mobiles are too high (several pence per min) for companies to offer free calls to them, whereas call termination costs to landlines are fractions of a penny.
It's PAC not PAC Code, it's MAC not MAC Code, it's PIN not PIN Number, it's ATM not ATM Machine, it's LCD not LCD Display, it's DVD not DVD disc... It's no one not noone, It's a lot not alot, It's got not gotten... Panini is the plural of panino - there is no S!!

I tried the free trial calls all the home pages of the above and none of them worked.
In all cases I get the message
"The destination phonenumber is incorrect, please enter the destination phonenumber in the international format "00 + country code + number""

I called my mother's BT landline number for christ sake.
This doesnt give me much confidence to pay good money for any of their packages.

I have signed up with Freecall but so far havent had one successful free call

Has anyone got any hints? Am I doing something wrong or are all these voip providers rubbish?

I've used at least two of the above in the past and never had any problems (currently don't have a mic or headset to use). Are you sure you're entering the entire number with country code and leaving out the "0" from the area code?
It should be of the format 00 44 1234 567890

    Try this one
    http://www.webcalldirect.com/en/index.php
it sets up a call between landlines, instead of PC-Landline.

BTW all of these operators are part of the Betamax company from Germany.

I've been using the service (various Betamax services) for over 2 years, not had any problems.

The free calls from the website are landline - landline, as Web Call Direct.

I enter them as +44121 for example for 0121.

You enter your own landline for the system to call you and the destination for it to call when you answer you half of the call.

I have no problems with their software or their call back service, though I mainly use this service with a LinkSYS PAP2 ATA so don't need the computer on to make (and receive) calls.

Gizmo - free calls to mobiles and landlines worldwide.

    http://www.gizmoproject.com/

There is a catch - you have to actively call or send messages to other PCs before you qualify for freecalls (though this is also free, just time consuming) otherwise you pay for it like any other service but the cost is much the same anywhere.
Faith is believing what you know ain't so...
