Hello,
We have a small baby and winters can be harsh up here and I'm panicked. Need to switch but not sure where to begin.
We're in the Highlands & Islands area (where we only get Electricity (no gas) and have been with SSE/Scottish Hydro for years. We've been on the Total Heating Total Control (THTC) tariff and have been vigilant at successfully keeping our bills down but have now received a letter from the SSE robbers that they are taking away our THTC tariff and also introducing a standing charge and that we should be aware that our bills will now be significantly higher than before!!!!
Any advise on what is available/best in terms of suppliers for our area and needs?
As always many thanks in advance for all your help.

Lucky for you, you don't need to worry about looking for the best deal. You're already on it! :T:j:)
Unfortunately you are also on the worst option
That's because you have no options ...
No other supplier will support your set up, and there is only one tariff available from SSE for you.0 -
Surely the meter can be changed for a standard or Economy 7 one?Lucky for you, you don't need to worry about looking for the best deal. You're already on it! :T:j:)

Write to Ofgem and ask them why they changed the tariff.0

What are they proposing to replace your tariff with if theyre taking it away from you and theres a good chance the standing charge isnt new as the thtc as far as i know was always offered on a standing charge basis.0 -
What I'm most concerned about is what to replace the TCTH with now that they've taken that tariff away.
If I go with another provider, which one?
And will I have to pay for another meter if I switch provider?
Many thanks for all help :0)0 -
Thanks folks.
Quoting part of the totally opaque letter received from SSE/scottish hydro below!
"We recently wrote to explain that your tariff would change to include a standing charge. This means that it will no longer have two block unit rates, and instead will have a single unit rate and a new annual standing charge."
Here's another fantastic quote from the letter...
"We do recognise that, as you don't use much energy in your property, the introduction of this standing charge has resulted in a significant increase in your bill."
Lovely eh?!0 -
