Are you London area then? If so I suspect your supply may of be illegally installed by the builder who converted it for the area. We have a lot at the mo
Yes I am in the London area and I can only assume it was done illegally when the flats were converted several years ago. If it is illegal whats the best course of action?0 -
UKPN will look into how they got there, the owner will be looking at a big bill trust me. The meters are also likely to be also bought of the shelf none authed.
Okay thanks I'll keep on at UKPN and try to get it sorted!
Chanz4, have you got a link to the 7/11 Utility Act?
As far as I remember (I'm out at the moment) there are no stickers and tags on the meter so I assume its illegal.
I think I'm going to have to keep chasing the landlord and UKPN..0 -
Thanks for the quick replies everyone!0

Sounds like you picked a right cowboy landlord.
I wonder what else they have bodged?
Or how they will react if you have any other issues?
Maybe time to start looking for another place0 -
Yes I think we might've done, they have been incredibly slow in getting a few maintenance issues sorted as well.
Ideally that would be what I'd do, but I'm temporarily in London for a year as part of my degree so can't really find somewhere else as I'm in a 12 month contract. Though apart from the issues with the electricity and the more minor maintenance issues its a really nice flat in the perfect area and I don't think we'd be able to find anything else comparable very easily.
A bit of an update; I have just spoken to UKPN and they advised me to call a supplier of choice, explain the situation and I want to join them, request a meter inspection and a D0168 (flow notice form) following the meter inspection, this should allow an MPAN to be assigned to my meter.0 -
No supplier will take these meters on, http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Theft_Act_1968 . my money is on the owners builders tapping in when they did the conversion at the main. EDF revenue protection will soon be looking at your property.Don't put your trust into an Experian score - it is not a number any bank will ever use & it is generally a waste of money to purchase it. They are also selling you insurance you dont need.0

Okay then, yes I think that sounds likely!
Sorry if it wasn't clear in the OP but I have already spoken to EDF revenue protection after EDF came and inspected the meters. They instructed me to contact a supplier and arrange the meter to be registered etc... So i'm unsure what to do next?0 -
Bit of a short update on this; I contacted the landlord about a few bits of maintenance and asked about the electricity meters and explained the problems we've been having. Apparently it's being sorted and he is is contact with UKPN who are coming to the property next week. So hopefully it will all be resolved without too much hassle for me (though maybe for him if he knows they were illegal)!
Thanks for your advice everyone0 -
