Hello

I am currently on Scottish power online November 13 tarrif which ends soon.

I have tried to get my annual Kwh calculations but it only goes from November last year until August, here is what i have worked out:

Elec 5842 Kwh 19.551p per Kwh
gas 9083 Kwh 7044p per kwh

Im paying £121 a month, this sometimes goes down etc.

I was looking to switch however i have notice that i am now on the help beat cancer fixed online 2017 tarrif

elec 12.356p per kwh
gas 3.790p per kwh

my question is should i stay on the fixed or change? some comparison sites say i will pay more other say i will save.

any help?

As your tariff ends in November you do not need to worry about its cost. Just find out what the total of your estimated usage will be.

    5,842 kWh over 10 months, 584.2 per month, 7,000 over 12 months
9,083 kWh over 10 months, 908 per month, call that 11,000. (approx overestimate) *

Whack 11,000 and 7,000 and your postcode in a comparison site and see what is available in your region.

    * you may need to revise the figures if original span is for nearly 11 months rather than just 10

(You also want to see how to reduce your rather large electricity consumption - that'll have a bigger effect than choosing one particular tariff over another.)

Your bill data is pretty meaningless as it demonstrates you have been almost certainly billed, at least in part, based on estimated readings.

Was the readings last November actual readings? Presumably that is when you started this tariff?

Then take the actual meter readings today

Then you'll know/be able to work out the actual usage over 11 months. From that you should be able to estimate what the usage over a 12 month period is likely to be.

Yes your electric is high if your property has gas central heating.
The gas readings are not in kwh so you need to convert them, to do this depends on your meter type, imperial or metric.
If you have a metric meter then your usage is approx 10483 kwh, if you have an imperial it is 29667 kwh. I hope you have a metric one!
One reading is quite low and the other quite high.

    Hi

sorry are you referring to gas or electric as imperial or metric? Can i tell from the meter?

I think the electric is quite high, family of 5, 3 kids 2 adults. Kids turning everything on and it does not help us having electric underfloor heating in the kitchen.

i'm not going to turn that on for a while yet, maybe December if i can or Jan when it gets really cold.

I noticed when i logged on to my Scottish power account that i have been moved to the fixed Jan 17 tariff, do you think i should move?

You will only have been moved to the January 2017 tariff if you've applied for it.

The meter will have "cu ft" or "cu m / m3" on the dial. If metric multiply your meter read by 11.2 or by 32 if imperial to get a rough kWh figure.
