Barclay Card and Aqua docs

Hello guys!
So I am very pleased I have been accepted for a Capital one Card (trying to rebuild credit!)
My plan is to spend very little a month just to pay it back and really rebuild it up as I want to get a bigger mortgage(repayment mortgage, currently on interest only 100% mortgage!) in a few years time and at the moment stand no chance!
Anyway...
I applied for a Barclay Card and Aqua card, I called up to check the status of the applications and they have both said they require documents from me and the letter will be recieved in the next 5-7 days. They couldn't tell me what documents they wanted.
I was just wondering, typically what do they ask for?
Mortgage proof?
Bank Statement proof?
ID?
Im just a bit curious as most of my bills and things are all electronic now, I feel this is maybe a bit archiac as we have credit files and the electoral role to check these days! (Apologies if this sound ignorant, not my intention!)
Any advice will be greatfully received!
Thank you!
xx

Typically various forms of ID - paper copies usually (eg certified copies of passports, birth certificates, etc).0
