Hi all, I am looking to swithc to First:Utility but with christmas coming I cant afford to be forced to pay of the existing debit I have with the current provider in a lump sum before christmas.
I believe some suppliers will let you move of your existing debit (debt).
Ive been trying to ask this of first direct over the phone. a total of 1hr 40mins in calls to them today on three occasions and still not able to get an answer - waiting in a queue.
I was wondering if anyone who has switched in the past or recently knows if they will allow this.
At this rate by the time I get an snwer from them they will have put their prices up and ended the fix! I cant find the answer on their website either.

A debit on a DD account is not a debt and yes when you change supplier you existing supplier will issue a final bill and expect it to be paid in full with 28 days after which it becomes a debt and they can send in the DCA.
The transfer of debt you are talking about only applies to an existing debt that is being collected via a PPM.IT Consultant in the utilities industry specialising in the retail electricity market.
