Structural Calculation

Options
Hi

One calculation quote , for one steel beam to go between kitchen and dining room

the guy says this comes under their minimum `band` - £450

I think this is not competetive but happy for thoughts?

Thanks

Get another quote as that seems high.

    Cheers Clive

I got another quote in , and am assuming as its only 3/4 of one wall coming down i should only need 1 beam.....

Our fees to provide structural calculations suitable for submission to building control for beams / structural items identified including initial assessment / calculation of loadings, would be £255+vat, (based on £85 for initial assessment & calculation of loadings, £85 per beam / structural item under consideration thereafter & per local site visit).

Both sound a bit steep. Around £200 would seem about right so the second one isn't miles off. Whereabouts are you?

if you've had four quotes then you've got a better idea than anyone commenting on here of what the cost is for your job in your area...

I think we paid our engineer around £450 but that was calculations for one beam where we widening an opening but also for calculations for foundations and the roof for single story extension.

    Hi DanDan.

Hope you don't mind me resurrecting this thread but i need a structural calc in LU2. Are you able to let me know who you went with in the end and whether they did the job?

    Cheers

    Hi Coco1,

I'm currently using Rashad Farooq of Istruct Consultants in Luton. I found them via Servicemagic.

I'm doing an extension nearby and got quite a few quotes. Rashad's quote was by far the best and he was willing to come down and take a look on site without expecting a fee.

I've no link to Rashad or his company other than as a client. I did however tell him I'd be happy to refer him on.

    Best of luck!
