I'm confused. You agree with McKneff that it is the OPs fault for trying to put their child in from the roadside but yet agree that it simply isn't practical to keep swapping the seat over with a small child in tow?

Would you care to read my post again?

    I did.

You thanked McKneff's post but the one quoted says quite clearly that carrying out the procedure isn't practical. It seems very much like you are referring to swapping the seat over. hence the confusion, hence the genuine question.
What if there was no such thing as a rhetorical question?

Indeed I did agree with McKneff's post and if you read my post correctly you would note that I was suggesting that the OP should consider the safety aspects of "swapping the seat around" to avoid loading the child from the road side against whether it is practical or not.

There's no need to move the seat!! We have an ISOFIX seat behind the driver's seat for DD (now 3). On occasions when it's not safe to get her in from that side we get in with her from the other side and strap her in from inside the car. Unless you have a washing machine or something on the other side of the back seats this should be an option for the OP/any other parent in this position.

Thanks for clearing it up. It's wrong of course, if it is impractical then with a small child you'd be putting them and yourself in more danger.

The simple solution is to park with the seat kerb side. As I said, not that hard. Once again though, criticsing the OP for this is not answering their question or helping them. Happens a lot on here but i know you are useually one of the more thoughtful and helpful characters, hence the (again genuine) question

The side the child on is irrelevant and detracts from the issue. Now the vehicle collided with your door op. Where where you at the time? I fit my child seat from outside the vehicle ie standing in the open door leaning in. Sounds like this was not the case as you would potentially be injured in the account above. So was the door open with you inside the vehicle? If so then the others drivers account will be more believeable.

I was standing outside in between my car and my half-open door (my top half was inside). The car behind bent the corner of my door and on the impact my own door pushed me (my legs) towards my car.

And no, I would not be inside while leaving the door open as that would just be asking for the door to be ripped off!:)
