Credit Card Protection Help

Options
Hi all, sorry if I have posted in the wrong place. Not sure if this should be in Credit Cards. Anyway here it goes.

I am a card holder on my mums visa, and I used it via PayPal to pay for a 16 night stay( for hubby and I) at a guesthouse in the Caribbean. I paid for it before I arrived.
A family situation arose when we arrived in the Caribbean so my husband and I who were supposed to be staying there stayed elsewhere and my mum stayed at the guesthouse for one night. The guesthouse was not at all what we were expecting and not up to our standard, so we only intended on letting mum stay the night. We handed the keys back the next day. I emailed the owner and told him that I would be requesting a refund. He (although not at the premises) said we should have told him and we would have been upgraded to a room with a flat screen TV, but I explained that it was not just the room but the building itself we were unhappy with. He also explained that he did not have the funds to repay me as it was low season but we could agree something and he would refund me in high season which starts in November. I returned home to the U.K on Sunday. Monday I emailed him to say that I am prepared to pay for two nights for any inconveniences caused but that I will be expecting the rest to be refunded. I received an email from a family member saying the owner has dropped dead and the guesthouse is now closed! I contacted the brother yesterday and he told me he would call back but he has not. I have text and called him but he has not responded. Paypal cant help as it is not tangible goods, can I get help with the credit card purchase protection? (Just to let you know I arrived at the guesthouse on Oct 4th, checked out Oct 5th, arrived back Oct 20th) Please help, I am desperate!!!!!!:(

How did you book, what are the terms of the booking you made?

It all depends if the terms you booked under are reasonable and what clauses they have for cancellation within them.

    Depends on the T&C.

As the credit card has no direct relationship with the guesthouse, they can argue that it's not their responsibility.

You may find that you will end up out of pocket.
