EDF pricing on the comparison sites incorrect or me?

I was just about to switch to EDF and thought I best double double check on the EDF's own website before switching through Uswitch or Uk Power.

EDF's cost per unit is actually higher for both gas and electric than any of the comparison sites I have trawled this morning.

UK Power say a saving of £204 to switch to the 2015 tariff. The standing charge quoted is the same as EDF but the cost of the gas and electric is lower than what EDF's site says. Their site says I will save £169. Uswitch different again saying saving of £180.

Bit of a difference there! Is anyone else finding this or just me! Seems a scam to get you to use a comparison site to switch and not get the deal they claim you will get.

Are you sure you have selected the correct tariff when visiting the comparison sites?

EDF have lots of tariffs with similar names!

(The comparison sites wouldn't survive a day if they were found to be doing the scam you suggest!)

Is there, by any chance, a 5% difference in the price per kWh or standing charges you are seeing?

    If you let me know:

    1. Your supply region
    2. Your current supplier and tariff
    3. Your anticipated annual usage in kWh

I'll be happy to take a look for you if that helps :)

The EDF site charges are now coming up the same Ive just run it again.

However they say they will save me £170 where as the comparison site claims to save £204 even though the rates used are the same.

Will just do it through EDF I think rather than a site claiming to save me more.

  • 1. Your supply region - East Midlands is what my electric bill says. I'm an OX postcode.

    2. Your current supplier and tariff - Gas Atlantic online paperless. Electric BG Fix and fall 2013

    3. Your anticipated annual usage in kWh
    21243 - Gas / 3306 Electric

    Thank you!

If just the cost per unit was coming up different I would suspect you had chosen different pay types

All those figures seem a little incorrect.

OX postcode can fall into either Southern Or East Midlands supply region.

If you are in the East Midlands supply region EDF say the following rates will apply on their Blue+Price Promise March 2015 tariff:

    Electricity Price/kWh

    Daily standing charge 18.90p
    Unit rate 12.01p

    Gas

    Daily standing charge 26.25p
    Unit rate 3.580p

    Source: http://www.edfenergy.com/products-services/for-your-home/documents/product-terms/Blue-Price-Promise-Mar15.pdf

I've no idea where UKPower is getting it's prices, but I checked with energyhelpline.com and they use the same prices (allowing for small rounding errors) as EDF publish

EHL say the EDF deal will cost you £1322 per year
(You can't really compare it to your existing tariffs as at least one is about to expire, but it currently costs you £1486 per year I think, and could cost you £1543 if you do nothing))

Scottish Power (Online Fixed Price Energy March 2015)
would cost you £1314 per year - early exit fees apply

First Utility (iSave Fixed v11 May 2015)
would cost you £1308 per year - early exit fees apply

    Spark energy (Spark Advance 2)
would cost you £1279 per year - not fixed

Oh, you've now changed this post completely.

Don't worry about the suggested savings. As I said they could be misleading as the BG tariff is about to expire and the Atlantic one is probably about to increase if not already (perhaps the comparison site hasn't updated yet if the cost has gone up. SSE announced price rises)

    Look at the annual cost.

If you want the EDF deal, go via a comparison site (using MSE links) and get some cashback ... but check first no better cashback is available from the dedicated cashback sites.

You'll get the same deal from EDF no matter how you apply. If you apply directly to EDF, the advisor there will have a bumper pay packet this month with the cashback you could have received being given to him/her instead ;)
