Nationwide close bank accoutns withiout warning

Options
Nationwide claimed there was potentially fraudulent activity on my credit card but refused to give any details of what this might be, They authorized and then a few days later cancelled approved transactions, leaving me and businesses in debt,

Now they have cancelled my bank account without warning (I found out when I tried to put petrol in my car, it has run out)

Can they just cancel my accounts and then give several different accounts of why this was done? They have doctored my accounts, even claiming I had visited branches that are not in my area, let alone town.

Worse still, they have closed my business account, on which there outstanding payments, with cheques dated before their illegal action.

I thought it was illegal to alter financial records? How can I have this investigated and have the relevant people jailed for it?

Where can I get food for the week until my new banks is opened?

Do a search on here about suspected fraud on bank accounts.
Oh, and calm down. Tackle this rationally.

I'm confused, why is it that when they've claimed there's potential fraudulent activity on your account and you've also discovered that they think you (or someone purporting to be you) has been to branches you know you haven't, your first reaction is that Nationwide are making things up, rather than the possibility that someone has been fraudulently visiting branches as you/using your account?
Have you actually talked to their fraud team, as if they suspect you/your account has been a victim of fraud it's normal policy for your account to be frozen/closed, and a replacement setup.

What they are doing is not illegal.

They are already doing an investigation, they will tell you the outcome once it has been finished. Most of the time, they can not tell you anything until the investigation is complete.

Throwing your weight around is not going to get anything done any sooner. More likely it will delay things.

From your emergency fund, put away just in case you have a problem like this. Most people have some money in the house put away for emergency, just in case they can't get to a bank or the banks network goes down. Likewise, companies do similar.

Erm... they don't, though. They offer a savings account, but not an actual current account.
