  • I switched to the NP 4 year fix - yes, its £5 a month more at today's prices, but since NP put their prices up by 10% the day after I switched, I'm already £1 a month up before any and all rises over the next 4 years.

As for the OP, that sounds like a bad Direct Debit calculation - happens ALL the time when you switch, unfortunately. Just need to give them a bell and discuss a reasonable/correct payment. Shouldn't be too different to what you pay now, maybe a bit more if you were in debt & vice versa.

Hi, although I agree that they are really bad to contact, try ringing at 8am or after 7pm..... you should get through with a few minutes.

They allowed me to cancel after 23 days because they admitted that at that stage they had not even sent out the welcome packs.

I didn't receive any written contact until 6 weeks after my application to switch.

Cooling off period - how long do we get to change our minds after swapping tariffs online with same energy company before the exit penalty kicks in - is there a legal entitlement or is it up to each company to set rules?
Seem to remember npower mentioned 14 days to change your mind?
Not sure if that was for swapping to them from another energy company....
swapping tariff online with Scottish Power [already with them] registered almost simultaneously in my online account - do I have a cooling off period?
So far no confirming letter or email - change appears only in my online account details.
Will there be a confirming letter marking the start of a cooling off period if the tariff swap is done online with the company you're already with?

I went for the Npower fix till Apr-15.

The real surprise to me when looking at the detail is that I took out my current fix just over a year ago and the increases I will now be paying are gas 7% but electricity a whopping 33%

I must admit I only looked at dual fuel tariffs before deciding on my switch.

Electricity has now gone up to £860 p.a. until Apr-15.

However due to the large increase in just over a year I could fix till Dec-17 for an extra £100 p.a.

    Shall I shan't I.....................

As far as I remember the dual fuel discount is only £10 per year. You should definitely look at separating your fuels (even try taking different tariffs from the one supplier.)
