A&L Recommend A friend...COMPLETE SCAM!!!

Since Jan 07 i have completed 4 recommend a friend vouchers with myself being the existing customer who has recommended 4 work collegues to A&L.

I have done this on using my own current account and also using my joint current account with my fiance so 8 recommends in total.

Since march i have made several phone calls to A&L to check on progress of these RAF vouchers and sometimes the staff are helpful and other times i wondered why i bothered calling them. I have had two of the vouchers paid to my own current account in may and none to my joint account.

so after yet more phone calls last week i received two identical letters...

"Thankyou for your recent communication regarding our Recommend A Friend promotion.

I have investigated your claim and can confirm that the person you recommended has already been recommended by another customer and therefore unfortunately on this occasion, you do not qualify for an incentive payment.

Thankyou for contacting us and for supporting this promotion.

Please feel free to send us any other recommendations."

have i misunderstood this promotion completely?

Jude

I would disagree with your opinion that this offer is a scam; I have referred over 50 members of this website as well as a few friends/family/colleagues, and A&L have paid up each time.

That sounds fine, I don't see why A&L would not pay up based on this info.

I don't understand this. You should only refer each new customer once, and they should only be referred once. e.g.:

My friend John opens an account.
I send off the voucher with my details and his details (or he could send the voucher if he prefers).
A few weeks later, I get the money from A&L, and so does he.
If I've made a deal with him through MSE, I send him 80% or whatever of my payment.
    That's it.

If more than one form per new customer has been sent then I would imagine the whole system would collapse - is that what has happened?

yeah, maybe so... it says you can recommend as many friends as you want so in work we were all recommending eachother and perhaps that is where it has all went belly up! thanks for your reply!

    Hi Jude1979,

I also feel you should amend the title of this thread as it is very misleading. The A&L refer a friend scheme is definitely NOT a scam - I have referred a great many people, like Dan, and I have only ever had a couple of problems with payouts and they have all been easily sorted out (ie vouchers getting lost in the post.)

I would suggest that you ask all the people you have recommended if they got recommended by anyone else in your office too and if they have received a payment from A&L already. If so then A&L will rightly not pay out for your referral since they have already been recommended by someone else. If any of them are adamant that only you referred them then appeal against it - I did once get the letter you've highlighted above for someone who had not been referred by someone else so they do make mistakes from time to time. I managed to get this rectified and paid out though as we could prove he had not received a referral payment through a recommendation from someone else.

Other than that just make sure if you recommend anyone else that they know they can only be recommended by the one person. Good luck with it.

    Regards

    Michelle

Note that if your referrals signed up through quidco, or similar affiliate site, A and L are within rights not to pay RAF bonuses.

I also agree with other posters on this thread, it is definately NOT a scam. I got paid my referral within 2 weeks of sending off my voucher! I was very impressed.

Very good point TheAble - some people don't notice the small print and end up not getting paid the referral due to doing this.
