Hi,
My son wants a gaming pc for Christmas.
He is only 11 and will mainly be playing Minecraft on it.
Can anyone recommend the best place to buy a cheapish one please?
Also most of the ones I've seen online don't have an operating system but I want one that has.
Thanks

What budget do you have and what is the likely maximum spec game he (read you
) will be playing?
Do you already have things like keyboard, mouse, hard drive (that can be transferred over), monitor?
Zoostorm are very good if you do not want to build your own and tend to come recommended

Hi, thanks for the reply, he only has a laptop at the minute so I need to buy the whole package.
I was hoping to pay about £600-£650 but its looking unlikely now.
I have no idea about the highest spec game he'll be playing lol but maybe things like call of duty and gta.0 -

£650 is more than enough, my system cost that much (plus payment for the guy to put it together) and it runs stuff like BF3 and D3 at 60+fps without a hiccup even with everything going on at once

That build costs £735 but you can get many parts cheaper elsewhere, I only used Amazon (with their prices as an example)
If you get all these parts together, you can usually take them down to a computer shop who would only be happy to put it all together for you for about £50
Your 'son' will have an absolute beast of a machine with that short of spending thousands
Most second hand 'junk' computer shops tend to have things like mice, cables, monitors and stuff hanging around taking up space that they will sometimes sell for a few quid, my monitor is an old CRT that I got given free due to its size so that is always an option, be cheeky"Don't blink. Doesn't the laptop play minecraft etc?!!

My son has an Alienware PC from Dell. It's a scary looking bit of kit, got it for him 2 years ago and this Xmas he's after the Laptop version which is hideously expensive for what you get (screen size etc) so I will be watching this thread with interest.
My son is gaming obsessed, did his school work experience in the Robotics design department of a local university and has his whole future mapped out in great detail (revolves around writing codes and stuff - it's a challenge to remain focussed when he's attempting to explain it all, but then I imagine Bill Gates's Mother had much the same problem...:rotfl:).
If money was no object to the Gamers here, which Laptop would be top of your lists please?0 -
Don't waste money on bits you don't need by buying a mainstream system, my advice (and this is what I do/did for all the pc's in our house - 4 of them) is to go to Cyberpower or Overclockers. You should find loads of stuff there that is suitable.
If you ask on their forums for a recommended setup to play the games you want for your price bracket you will get lots of help and options.
Both companies have prebuilt systems but also build to order so you can get exactly what you need.
I used Cyberpower for my last build as I needed very powerful but very silent and the forum guys were absolutely great and designed me a setup that did exactly what I needed.
No connection with either company by the way, just a satisfied customer.
Alienware is lovely looking - my son had desktop for his 18th but they are very overpriced. His pc cost £500 more than my gaming setup (both bought around the same time) and is nowhere near as powerful. He now regrets going for the "cool" factor.
nonnatus - if money was no object I would get something like this - http://www.cyberpowersystem.co.uk/system/FANGBOOK_Evo_HX7-300 - but then I would never game on a laptop anyway.0 -
Pretty much any desktop/Laptop will play minecraft, it's not particularly graphics hungry.0

His laptop does play minecraft, but its an old laptop on its last legs and he really wants a pc.
He's planning on downloading games off 'Steam' onto the pc aslwell.
