Holiday Lets on Ebay

I've seen a few of these, some looking very dodgy.

How can a buyer protect themselves if buying one from Ebay?

They usually want, at least, a deposit to be paid as a 'buy it now'.

I suppose if the let turns out to be bogus to could do an INR claim?

Unlikely as it is intangible. You would still only have the 45 days to claim anyway.

I thought intangibles were a risk only from a seller's point of view?

Any deposit payment for whatever purchase is not covered by buyer protection.

Intangibles are not covered for buyer or seller.

Section 13.2 and 13.3 of the policy agreement.

So Ebay purchases for this sort of thing sound very risky indeed.

They carry the same risks as if you were purchasing a 'let' from an individual anywhere. Unless there is some sort of protection from a travel company type thing, then you pays your money and takes your chance.

I think tripadvisor and holiday lettings have an added guarantee though. It's a shame Ebay doesn't do that but hey ho.
