Eating out in Prague? any recommendation pls

Can anyone recommend any good restaurants in prague. Staying in a htoel just off the main square - want decent food that's not overly expensive.

Any recommendations greatly appreciated.

cheers

Just go and enjoy it. Different people having different eating needs my recommend somewhere you might not enjoy. I have never been disappointed in Prague so choose a nice little place away from the crowd and ENJOY. All restaurants really good value.
  • If you have not been to prague before you will love it . Everything and I mean everything is very cheap . The food I had was top notch and the drink was good too. The only thing I would say is stay well away from the 'ladies of the night ' unless your with friends and stay in a group . A friend of mine lost his card over there and all we could put it down to was a ahem 'lady of the night' ;) that he said he was 'chatting to ' . I believed him but the rest of the stag party certainly didnt! I Recommend the irish bar in the main square for a lovely pint of guiness. Have fun and enjoy oh and one other thing the rate I got for the korona from the cashpoints was actually quite reasonable if you dont want to carry £.

Try the cuban restaurant la bodeguita. It's 2 minutes from the old town square near the metro station. It has good food, great atmosphere and fantastic cocktails (mmmm mojito's!). Oh and not a dumpling in sight!!!

My husband lives in Prague so naturally I have spent a lot of time there.

The Irish bar just off Old Town Square is Caffrey's. Cheap it certainly is not.

If you want to go to Prague and spend the entire time with other Brits paying UK prices, OK head straight for Caffrey's.

My advice to anyone going to Prague is just steer clear of all Irish bars and the franchises (ie MaccyD, TGI, KFC) and head off down the little streets and you will find numerous terrific places to eat and drink.

    Just my two crowns worth!!

u prince in the old square, if you eat inside in the evening there is a jazz band playing, and outside they have a nice enclosed eating area. There are pictures of the food in the menu book so you can see what you are getting!

Guinness or Caphreys are to be consumed in Ireland NOT IN PRAGUE. Why on earth do people bother to go abroad to drink beverages they can have everyday at home. :rotfl:

For your information, the Czech Republic has many hundred years of beer making experience and the name of Budwiser originates from this country.

Tell you what, go to Prague and visit the Irish Pub and other well known chain of restaurants tell everybody you had a good holiday when you come back. That will leave the real places unspoiled for me when I next visit

Not the cheapest by Czech standards but try V Zatisi at Lilova 1 in the old town if you want to splurge one day - it's about £40 per head for the Bohemia menu of several courses of local specialities - our meal involved venison, quail, rabbit, duck and then dessert, with a glass of wine matched to each course, and it was wonderful. For that quality you'd be paying easily double in the UK. No good for vegetarians though!

Avoid the Irish pubs and duck into any Czech bar for excellent cold pilsner for around 50-60p for a half-litre. If you've got time for a day trip out of Prague you could always go to the town of Ceske Budovice where Budvar/Budweiser originates from, you're guaranteed a good beer there.

Mr Warren you said in much plainer terms what I was trying to say!!

Czeska Budowize is about 3 hour drive outside Prague. A bit of a hike if you are only in the country for a short break.

Plzen, the home of pilsner beer is more accessible but in my opinion there is more than enough in Prague itself to keep busy. If you are spending more time in the Czech Republic there are loads of wonderful towns and countryside to see but that is a another story.
