told to resign

Hi all
Really, I just need a bit of a rant and some advice.
I'm a teacher, and after two years of in and out of the competency procedure, the head calls me to his office, and tells me he wants my resignation by Friday, or he will take me through the final stage of competency. This would be immediate suspension, while the dismissal process goes through.
This comes after he found a set of folders for kids that I haven't seen for four weeks, therefore there is little work or marking, and the results of an observatio on monday where the observer was so late into school that she only saw the last ten minutes and it was rearranged.
I didn't know what the meeting was about so there was no opportunity to call my union rep in.
Quite frankly, I'm devastated. I thought this year was going well, and I was getting on track. If I leave, and move back to wales, I lose my whole life, not to mention uprooting my daughter. On the other hand the thought of trying to start again at another school is petrifying.
Like I said not sure what I need from you guys but this has always been a great place to turn

Have you spoken to your union rep since the meeting ?
I think that would be the first port of call.0 -
Were there competancy issues?0
-
If you do have competency issues, if you walk you will be able to obtain agency work.
If they have to finish you, that's the job over .
Not perfectly legal, but I would act in your own best interests here and go see the man and say provide me with a good reference and I may consider your offer once I receive it.
Not exactly a shortage of teaching jobs or lucrative agency teaching work is there ?
This could be an opportunity, they often come dressed in rags.Be happy...;)0 -

It depends on the OP's subject/ age group, in some areas the is a massive over supply of teachers
OP, are you at the penultimate stage of the competency procedure? Is there a valid reason why you have not seen the work in question for four weeks?0 -
Why would you have to go back to Wales if you leave?
I think sometimes this is the mistake people make in their thinking - the end of one job does not necessarily mean that everything else is going to fall to pieces. But if you think like that, then you will panic and be abrupt or stroppy or desperate with your dealings of the situation and get the outcome you feared.
You are probably a very good teacher in the right circumstances, and maybe this is just a school that doesn't suit you. Don't let it knock your faith in yourself.:heartsmil When you find people who not only tolerate your quirks but celebrate them with glad cries of "Me too!" be sure to cherish them. Because these weirdos are your true family.0 -
Unfortunatly, I suspect we will see more of this as the Heads weed out the "Weak" teachers/ those who aren't prepared to give every moment of their lives to someone elses children. If the head thinks you are too expensive, doesn't like you or what ever, he / she will replace you with a nice young malable NQT because there are lots to choose from.
By the sounds of it the head is going to make your life so unbearable so you leave, and doesn't want to have to pay you through sick leave before he does this. I would quit whilst you still have your mental health.
I am not saying you are a poor teacher or anything, but it's all part of the bullying that is so common in teaching. Teaching job interviews are auditions, to see if your face fits. Would't be surprised if he has someone else in mind already!0 -
Come on lets be honest and this in no way relates to the OP.
There are many many shocking teachers.
About time they are weeded out.
Still too many jobs for life still in certain sectors.0 -
You've been given the option to resign, and therefore receive a standard reference. If you fight it out and lose, you're looking at future references saying you've been sacked for lack of performance.
If I were you I'd resign so I have a good reference.0 -

Yes, I see them once a week, for a double lesson, on Tuesdays. Last tuesday was a training day, the one before that I was off ill and the one before that we were on strike.Oh for Goodness' Sake!! Here we go again
