Yes, this is why you keep up with traffic and rip the side off any car "shoving in"
    Be happy...;)

You shouldn't, but there have been instances of it happening. The camera doesn't show what happened before it took the incriminating evidence. However, there have also been instances of this scenario giving rise to successful appeals.
If you fold it in half, will an Audi A4 fit in a Citroen C5? :)

"no person shall cause a vehicle to enter the box junction so that the vehicle has to stop within the box junction due to the presence of stationary vehicles"

If your exit lane was clear on entry, then you may not have committed an offence.

  • As others have said, it should be fine but it will depend on what the CCTV has caught.

Certainly in London the boroughs system seems fairly good making these cases fairly clear cut and you can view the video online yourself.

Unfortunately I was caught recently and it was my fault but still amusing to watch the video and what the camera controller was evidently doing when he spotted me trying to chance it

I'm no lady, and I doubt even if the operator was that she'd be eyeing me up :(

Its slowly panning, sees me make a move, zooms in close to the reg plate then jumps to the wheels showing them stationary, then zooms back out to show the whole car, then there's a bit of minor adjusting and then sits there for the 8 seconds or so before the traffic moves and I exit the box

If everyone drove through these boxes in such a way as to be 100% sure of never committing an offence, the traffic would never get anywhere.

Rubbish. You would wait another couple of seconds max. to be certain, then continue as usual with your wits about you. If you plan well ahead and have a good view (no panel vans in your way), then you can start slightly early, knowing the vehicles will move before you reach the other side.

I have never been fined for box junction offences as I simply don't commit them. The traffic around me flows perfectly well, thank you.

That's not how it works in London. To be 100% sure, you'd need the box and your exit all to be clear. In reality, people take an educated risk, and sudden stops in the traffic can easily render such a decision liable to prosecution.

In fact, the Highway Code even says this: "You MUST NOT enter the box until your exit road or lane is clear".
