    Quick update on this - turned out it was just corruption (probably caused by the original infection) of the windows install. Repair install done and pc is now updating before being returned to it's rightful owner :)

    I have a dodgy "i" key, so ignore spelling errors due to "i" issues, ...I blame Apple :D
