Am I still paying for gas?

Hi my heating is turned off but two radiators upstairs still come on, I've read a few posts that its something to do with the valve, I just want to know that even tho my heating is turned off am I still paying for gas due to the two radiators being hot? If I'm not then that's fine but need to know whether or not to call a plumber as I'm trying to cut down on my gas. If I am still paying for gas if I turn the thermostats off at the hot radiators does this stop me from being charged for gas?

if they are getting hot then the water in them is being heated and if they c/h is gas then yes you are using it and will have to pay for it. You may also have a standing charge for gas.

If they get hot you're paying for them to get hot, if they don't you're not.

If your supplier has a standing charge for gas there will still be a bill regardless of use so check this with supplier

If the heating setting on the boiler is off there is still a background check for defrost (in most cases).

Radiator thermostats should only be turned down to the frost, not the off setting.

Do you use gas for water or cooking? Combi-boiler or not? If a combi then you can read the meter to check how much is used overnight.

How are your radatoirs coming on if you have turned your heating off?

If they are supplied by another source (e.g. a whole block heating system) then the gas used by that central boiler will not be going through your meter so you won;t be paying directly.

But presumably any such common heating is paid by some form of maintenace fee, which you will be paying (alomng with all the other residents)

Other option is you are heating your water via your own gas boiler, and you have a faulty valve that is not shutting off your heating circuits. In which case you will be paying for that heat by an increased gas usage.

Maybe you should call a plumber to check things out ?
