RAC Battery scam?

Wouldn't it be much simpler to contact RAC and query the price directly with them.
You've enough information to put your case, who knows they may make a goodwill gesture.
However, you did authorize the job to be done and that was a choice you made - I can see where you're coming from though, and there is an element of 'having you over a barrel'
Put your complaint to RAC, I'd be interested to hear what they have to say about the price difference.0 -
You paid your money and took your choice.
If the car was safely parked at home, you could have made other work arrangements and bought a cheaper battery either online or got someone to pick one up from a motor factor during the day for you.
You instead chose to pay convenience cost of instant supply and fit.
Expecting a business like RAC to store supply and fit at internet supply only prices isn't going to happen.0 -
Strange views on a money saving site. Halfords/RAC/AA battery price = twice price of same battery at local motor factor. Keep on feeding those venture capitalists, they invest their money to get just that blind, brand loyalty.0
-
They didn't overcharge you they told you the price you agreed it's fitted.
Ok it's cheaper elsewhere that is not a issue anymore you should have looked while you were waiting a simple search of local motor factors in your area and a phone call would find you a price.
No sympathy.::mad:0 -
I agree with the OP it is profiteering, and for all the people who rightly criticise KwikFit for adopting the same tactics - please show a little balance and fairness.
This is the battery direct from Exide.

I would expect the RAC to get the battery far cheaper than that, and opart of the RAC membership fee covers the fitting of parts which they supply.0 -

No, it's a website with Exide in the name. The actual company behind the site is The Battery Shop.

Did you check the battery was brand new?
I had AA visit my car and fit a new coil pack at an expensive £89 (new coil packs can be had for £30) and it turned out they had fitted a 2nd hand or damaged one. I soon got back to AA and got them to refund and remove the part from my car.
Cowboys all of them these days. Fair enough maybe £10 or £20 over the price you can get online but not £60 more.0 -
Any of these websites you lot have found bring it to you at a location you dictate at an hour of your choosing come rain come shine?
The true mse way would be to maintain your battery by doing regular checks and possibly investing in a slow charger and buying a cheap battery prior to the existing batteries failure. No scam occurred.0 -
The problem is, Halfords with their inflated prices are already skewing people's perception of what a battery is really worth. The RAC are just building on that.
Check the prices at Eurocarparts to see the difference.0
