MSE News: Have you fixed your energy bills? Your questions answered

I'm under the same confusion as you jimbo49. Haven't they changed it so you get your discount throughout the year and not year end, i'm sure they mentioned it changing in october? Correct me if wrong but as i see it, the price quoted is what we will pay and no additional annual discounts.
octypuss they normally send you a contract letter within a week. Best to ring them up and see if they opened an account for you.0 -

If you are getting the tariff info from the energy companies how much harder is it to ask them to supply this tiny bit of extra information and then show it on your comparison site? The extras IGT charge makes a difference to which company to fix with as it can add a considerable amount to longer term fixes.
Most customers are not supplied via an IGT.
Where they are, and in the odd occassion an IGT surcharge applies, the surcharge may even depend on the particular IGT the customer is supplied by.
However, 5 of the big 6 energy suppliers have no IGT surcharge. Only nPower (out of the big 6) do apply one, and that is only £10 a year ... so not exactly a deal breaker.
Smaller companies may have IGT surcharges (not all do) and some just don't accept customers supplied via an IGT. On the comparison sites sites I use, it does usually state if the smaller company refuses to accept customers on an IGT (assuming the supplier openly discloses such fact e.g. on their website).0 -
thanks,
ill try to give them a call,
i did read the article above, but seeing as i signed up for the tariff when it was avaiable but have heard nothing since, i was just wondering if i was likely to be in the 10% that were rejected, or if others had applied the same time as me and heard that they were still going to be offered that tariff.
MSE spent all last week telling us to "switch now" which i did, but if i keep waiting to hear from CEC it seems i may miss out..0 -

I suggest you switch again using a different comparison site.
Just like the article explains ...
I thought once you have signed up via comparison site if plan is withdrawn few days later your still signed up0 -

Brilliant advice!
Couldn't agree more.
I wouldn't listen to the advice MSE Archna has taken the time & trouble to explain in her article.
What does she know anyway? She only runs the CEC. :cool:0 -

the article here says;
"It may take a couple of weeks to get your welcome pack from the provider. This is taking even longer than usual at the moment due to the high volume of switches.
To make matters even worse, you've been telling us that when you ring the new supplier, it's telling you it knows nothing about the switch. This is totally incorrect and either a tactic to get you to switch directly (which means no cashback for you and is cheaper for the energy supplier) or the customer service team hasn't been told what's going on. Give it a few weeks then get in touch with the supplier you've switched to. "
so they are suggesting to wait a while before contacting new provider,
and that " If you signed up for the tariff, you should get it. "
so not sure why your replies are quite so harsh,
didnt think i was asking anything odd/wrong?!
i know why i stick to reading the forum posts hoping someone else asks the same question as i have now rather than asking myself!!0 -

What would (the old) MSE have to say about this type of misinformation from a switching site?
You can often get more cashback by switching direct (via a cashback site). And currently much more with, eg. SP and Np
And of course you can always get more cashback by using a switching site via cashback sites than the CEC!0 -

as far as i am aware, the npower discount is still paid yearly. i have had no notification, as far as i remember, saying it has changed to monthly.
i think it is confusing when you are given a price, only to find out that there is no discount coming off later, or the discount is already off, but not stated. if you know that the price you are gonna pay is without any discount and is stated as that, you know where you are.0 -

On my new contract, for the 4 winter fix, it states that the discount is taken off my monthly DD payments.0
