Screwed over by B&Q/scottish power free boiler scheme
Applied for a free boiler with them as ours is broken. spent 2 months being messed about with phone calls and visits.
was told by the cost assesor and the lady on the phone it had been approved and they were just awaiting the bookings team who would ring any day now.........
2 weeks later...a letter stating that due to the replacement cost of £4997 we could'nt have the boiler as the grant was only £3717.
and to please ring... BASICLLY pay up the balance or no new boiler
how the hell can they get away with this ........I dont have that type of money......and besides the energy companies are suppoesed to be obligated to replace my boiler...the funding to B&Q is being given by scottish power.
how the heck does a boiler cost that much I have a brochure here from plumbase and the good makes are only £800 for 36kw boiler. you can get the cheap ones for about £500.
I have read somewhere this is how the power companies are getting away with not replacing boilers to...out source the contracts who then reject them and the out source companies are paid for the visits they do......sounds like a licence to print money off the backs of poor people

Is £4,997 including VAT?
Outrageous.
So the deal is:
Scottish Power claims they spent £3,717 on Green Obligations to fill their quota.
On paper, you pay £1,280 to B&Q, Scottish Power pays £3,717 to B&Q. Now, in a separate marketing budget, B&Q pays out a Finder's Fee to Scottish Power, say £1,000.
So Scottish Power has only paid out £2,717 for your boiler,
but B&Q has pocketed £3,997, minus the £2,000 for installation (They claim the £400 VAT back). Assuming your boiler costs £2,000 + VAT = £2,400 if it was done by your own independent engineer, then it is better to do that. But of course, it means taking Scottish Power to the Ombudsman, etc. and not get your boiler till next year.0 -
I'm going to have to go to complain to someone, I dont have the money to pay the extra. I could'nt save that type of money, so i dont have a boiler anyway. as the bloody thing broke back in the spring. and as my boiler is 40 yrs they dont do parts for it.
They annoying thing is this scheme was supossed to be for people like me. I work I have 2 children but I claim WTC because my income is so low.
I'd like to make the boss of Scottish power boil 6 kettles and 4 saucepans, carry them all up the stairs one by one and and wash 2 children plus myself all in the same water....its disgusting. and my electric bill has gone through the roof and its lining their pockets....:mad:0 -
PS the letter does'nt state if vats inc or not......0
