Hotel Bar Prices

I went to a wedding reception last night at a Hotel, I could not believe how much they were charging for drinks:
Large glass of white wine - £8.00
Small glass of white wine - £5.75
Pint of San Miguel (draught) - £3.75
Soft drink (coke/lemonade) - £4.00 a pint
That was just for the 'cheap' house wine!
To make it worse the price list was not displayed anywhere... so you either had to ask before you ordered or got a nasty suprise!
Strangely enough the bar was very quiet and there were lots of sober people!

blimey that was dear!
I thought by law prices must be clearly displayed or listed.
just out of curiosity was it an independent or 'chain' hotel and what was the location?Baby Milk Action is a non-profit organisation which aims to save lives and to end the avoidable suffering caused by inappropriate infant feeding.0 -
The greedy sharks. £4 for a Coke would be extortion even by the Ritz's standards.
Might be worth tipping off your local Trading Standards as all bars are supposed to clearly display a price list by law. You could also write a review of the place on TripAdvisor, making special mention of the drinks prices.
Just to save our resident anti-consumerist Dave Brooker the time and effort, I've drafted the following which he can copy and paste into his reply...If you don't like it don't go there. Businesses can charge whatever they like. They have to make a living. Customers should stop moaning about everything. I can't see the point in coming on to an internet forum to complain about this. (repeat ad infinitum......)0 -
Its true though - they can charge what they like, however after a certain point they are going to see their proffits drop as fewer people will purchase. It may be that they hiked the prices for the wedding - commonish practise I believe.0

Where else operates a 24 hour bar service? Generally places like this will serve you a pint 24 hours so the costs will naturally be high.
I would rather pay £4 a pint in a nice hotel that £2.50 in a scutty city bar!
What hotel was it?0 -

It is an offence not to clearly display prices at the bar.
As the OP says tip off Trading Standards.
But at the end of the day if you overcharge like that you just wont sell the drinks bit silly really

If you want cheap booze at a wedding reception, only go to the ones in working mens clubs rather than posh hotels...
£3.75 for San Miguel isn't too bad, but at £8 for a glass of plonk they're having a laugh...The money, Dave...0 -

Boring!
If that made you roll around on the floor laughing then....never mind...0 -
The hotel was the Felbridge Hotel in Felbridge, Sussex...(not even in the centre of London), I don't think it is part of a chain.
I appreciate that they can charge what ever they like, but since it was a wedding reception I didn't have much choice but to 'shop with them'!
I expect to pay a bit more in a hotel than i would in a pub, but the day before we had a whole bottle of wine in a restaurant for less than 2 large glasses of their wine!0 -
I went to a wedding recently in an independant hotel. They charge 70p for orange squash and tap water, which I was buying for my children. Here I go again on my own....0
