When is a fixed tarrif not fixed?
Please be aware of SSE "fixed discount tarrif Oct 2014".It is not a fixed tarrif,as I found out.It is an 11% dicounted rate for 1 year over standard tarrif then 2% for the rest of the "FIX".Therefore the price hikes apply, then the 11% or 2% discount is applied,so your bills are still going to go up.Fiendishly clever these people.Ha Ha.

Well to be fair, "fixed discount" in the name of the tariff does seem quite self-explanatory and (to me at least) it's clear that it's the amount of discount that's fixed, not the unit price. I don't really see where the confusion might be TBHNow free from the incompetence of vodafail0

Probably why it says "discount" in the title and not just "Fixed".
Fun with the English language is what most "marketing executives" live for0 -
Yep - we all know them to be slippery, but they have fixed a discount option over their standard tariff, it's just that it doesn't match the the initial term.
As long as they make this clear, they've not misled anyone. To be fair, it catches the unwary and/or trusting consumer. Given time, there will be nobody left in this category.0 -
SSE's 'Fixed discount tariff' is just a new twist on an old theme, and under the rules already set in place by Ofgem, you don't have to just roll over and pay up.
If on reciept of the price-rise letter, you Write/Email SSE advising them you do not accept the new prices and are going to Switch, they have to maintain the old prices till your Switch takes effect, even if that date is past the day the prices went up
I'm not familiar with the fine detail of this tariff, but 11% off the Standard tariff seems good so maybe it's still worth being with SSE - However that's unlikely be the case when the discount drops to 2% and a rise takes place0 -
is a tariff the same as a price ?0
