    Just one more suggestion.

If your husband hasn't got another job then I would encourage him to apply for contribution based JSA.

You are now aware that he might be sanctioned because he has left voluntarily. However, this is not 'written in stone' and would probably go to a decision maker. They will probably contact his employers and ask why he left. He will need to give his reasons for leaving (just needs to be honest) and if his doctor writes a letter for him then all well and good. Even if his doctor won't do this there may be a chance that he isn't sanctioned.

Since he will be claiming contribution based JSA (not income based) which is based on his NI contributions there may be a chance that he is awarded it or the sanction will not be a lengthy one. Worth having a try. You never know.

Thanks pmlindyloo - excuse my ignorance, is contribution based JSA the normal JSA (i.e. the one you can claim up until 26 weeks?). If so will encourage him to put in for it, nothing to lose, potentially £££'s to gain :) Thanks again.

Yes, contribution based JSA only lasts for 26 weeks and household income/savings/capital is not taken into account.

Income based JSA is awarded when you have insufficient NI contributions and is based on household income/savings/capital and has no time limit.

You don't get a choice whether or not to claim contributions based JSA and it being awarded will not effect the sanction decision

Poppie thank you very much, a very kind post. It is not often you come across people who don't harp on about the amount of holidays they get etc (that they don't actually see!).

I hear ya! My sister is a Primary Head and it's so awful for her, she truly is one of those with a vocation but I hate to see her so dedicated to a role that gives her nothing but grief, as a non teaching head she sees very few of the high points benefits and is blamed for everything by everyone.

A woman at my work was moaning today about an inset day directly after half term and how a week off wasn't enough for the teachers in her child's school - it was like red flag to a bull

And she would berate me for my lack of full stops in this post ;)

Whatever you and your husband have to do to manage it'll be worth it. Good luck
