switch from SSE to EDF - cancel DDs?
I switched from SSE to EDF a while ago over the Internet. EDF supply started around mid-October for both electricity and gas and I submitted opening readings so all seems fine on the EDF side. Direct debits for EDF will start on the 1st of November.
However, I haven't heard anything from SSE yet, no final bill, nothing. Should I cancel the SSE direct debits now? I don't want both companies to take money from my bank account on the 1st of November. The SSE account was in credit for both electricity and gas, as far as I know.
Thank you!

Hi I've just dicovered that " SSE fixed rate Oct 2014" isn't a fixed rate. It's a 11% discounted rate,so you still get the price rise, just its discounted.Im moving to Edf if I can get the old rate before the price rise.As Im in credit,I'l be canceling my direct debit asp so they can chase me for any coppers I may owe after the change over.0

thanks, any other opinions re the consequences of canceling the DDs?0

If able I would let it ride for one more month and see what happens. Of course, being the end of summer a recalculation of your last bill without a direct debit discount may not be significant (particularly as you are in credit).
You will eventually receive any balance due. But you may want to give them a prompt - some suppliers can be negligent with paying out final balances.0 -
Thanks looks like I do have to call SSE then just to ensure they won't be taking any DDs anymore.0

I switched from SSE and I suggest that you leave the DD open because any money owed/owing can easily be dealt with if the DD is still open.
However, I suggest that you call them and set the SSE DD to £1 to prevent any significant amount of money from being debited.
SSE are pretty good at sorting it all out. It's a pity that their prices are so crap.0 -
Thanks all I called SSE and they stopped the payments for the 1st of Nov, but they told me not to cancel the DDs altogether. Today I got the final bill for electricity which actually mentions the same thing - don't cancel the DD - and tells me the date when they'll refund me what they owe me. I guess another one will follow for gas.
I have to say I wouldn't have switched from SSE - good customer service - but EDF was cheaper even before the recent price hikes by SSE.0
