I took my car into the garage on Friday for its MOT and a service. The mechanic had the car all day Saturday. I wend to collect it at 645 on Saturday evening to be told there was a problem. A pipe connected to the turbo had split. The car was now making adjusting noise which it hadn't when I dropped it off. They had taped the pipe because they thought it might be pulling air in. The noise was still there. They said the pipe may need replacing. They young mechanic told me it might be the turbo. I left the car there because they recommended not driving it. The garage was in contact yesterday to say they had replaced the pipe but the noise was still there which meant it was the turbo. I picked the car up and drove it home. There is a whistling noise which definitely wasn't there before. Could it be a coincidence that the turbo has gone whilst it's in the garage or could it be something the garage have done? I'm only dubious because the car was absolutely fine when I dropped it off on Friday evening. Any advice is welcome.

How many miles and which engine is it?

During an MOT they can rev the car fairly high, so that could've been the little push the turbo needed to go. Chances are it would've gone soon anyway if that's the case.

It's a 1.8tdci 125diesel crd ghia. 104977 miles. We bought the car in March this year.

It could be a worn turbo lack of good quality oil changes soon wears them out.

Do ask them to check all the hoses or take it to another garage it may just be a simple problem.
