Store Twenty One - Awful Service

Store Twenty One refused to return an item which didn't fit, three days after purchase. They said it showed clear signs of wear.
It was a kids hat that didn't fit, no signs of wear at all, seeing as it didn't even fit on his head.
It was a £5 hat and they've lost my custom forever. Not only bad customer care, but poor business sense. I doubt they're making profits with service like this.
Their store policy is to refund/replace unless it's underwear/jewelry. They should not have policy in addition to statutory rights if they're not prepared to follow it.

What was the timespan between receiving and return0

You have no statutory right to return items bought in store, but they do have to honour their return policy if there is one. Did they tell you what the signs of wear were?0

Head office have agreed to refund and have apologised for the inconvenience.
They couldn't show me the signs of wear as there aren't any as it hasn't been worn.
Either way, at least it's sorted, it's a shame I'll have to waste my time going back to the store again. All for a hat which cost £4.99.0
