DLVA, written off car and bailiffs!

Ring your local magistrates court, and say that you need to do a Statutory Declaration (Stat Dec), they'll ask for what you know about the case, and give you a choice of times to go and do it (normally first thing before the mag starts dealing with cases).
I did one last October, I was in and out in 10 minutes. Basically you swear to tell the truth, tell them what happened, they asked a couple of questions about my situation at the time (nuts) then they give the DVLA 6 months to bring the case again, otherwise it will be dismissed. I've never heard anything about it since.Yes it's overwhelming, but what else can we do?
Get jobs in offices and wake up for the morning commute?0 -
thank you so much. I have already contacted the court and I'm going on Tuesday. I was 90% sure that was right, but my head is spinning from all the information I've received in the last week.
skivenov thanks for sharing your experience too, that's reassuring.
I've been to the mags court lots of times as a witness (for work!) but this is a whole new aspect for me.0 -
Update:
Been to the court this morning and done my stat dec, so that's nice and simple. Just got to see what the DVLA decide to do next.
Should I write to the DVLA in the mean time? I have proof of when the vehicle was removed by my insurance company. I feel like if I send a letter now it will just get lost in the system since I don't have any reference numbers for them or anything. But then again, since they don't seem to know that I don't have the car anymore, it seems like I shouldn't just ignore it. It's not like you can speak to a human being at the DVLA about any of this.0 -
The other thing that might be worth doing is to drop a letter to the insurance company, they took ownership when they took the car.
It might even be that the car has been repaired and is back on the road0
