can also transmit, if you plug it in the wrong socket
It would probably work well but briefly as a bar fire if you plugged it into a mains socket. Don't try this at home kids.... DaveHappily retired and enjoying my 14th year of leisureI am cleverly disguised as a responsible adult.Bring me sunshine in your smile0 -
plug it into a vcr output, and it transmits.!!

thanks for the replies. I will print out and show OH and I wont be forced onto the roof
"enough is a feast"...old Buddist proverb0 -
I a word - no. Aerials don't attract radio waves, the signal is all around you and right through you all the time, the aerial just taps into it :-)0

They all radiate weakly at the local oscillator frequency too. That's what TV detector vans detect but not with the directional accuracy they claim.plug it into a vcr output, and it transmits.

There is nothing dangerous about this at all.Local oscillator radiation[edit]
Further information: Electromagnetic compatibility
It is difficult to keep stray radiation from the local oscillator below the level that a nearby receiver can detect. The receiver's local oscillator can act like a low-power CW transmitter. Consequently, there can be mutual interference in the operation of two or more superheterodyne receivers in close proximity.
In intelligence operations, local oscillator radiation gives a means to detect a covert receiver and its operating frequency. The method was used by MI-5 during Operation RAFTER.[15]
A method of significantly reducing the local oscillator radiation from the receiver's antenna is to use an RF amplifier between the receiver's antenna and its mixer stage.0 -
yea, a minuscule amount of radiation, as does the TV, PC, mains cables, switches, lights, sun, moon, wifi, phone (epecially wireless and mobiles)........zzzzzz. You a scaremonger Kwikbreaks? :-)0

No but perhaps you are illiterate?Heedtheadvice wrote: »You a scaremonger Kwikbreaks? :-)kwikbreaks wrote: »There is nothing dangerous about this at all.0 -
Leakage is possible in the form of electro magnetic micro waves. You and your family can be protected by wearing hats made from tin foil and standing in a single line facing the tv. To confirm you are doing this correctly please post pictures on this thread.I was thinking along the lines of electric, magnetic or micro waves/energy etc etc etc. Instinct tells me there is some leakage but at low level given the aerial's overall size. Just need confirmation for peace of mind until we can mount it on the chimney.0
