When getting a quote online, where it mentions usage, do I put in what will have been used this year according to my supplier or what they estimate I will use next year ? Im so confused. Thank you peeps:)

Put in what YOU estimate you will be using over the following year (in kWhs).0

The only problem with that approach is that it will be difficult to work out a comparison with what you are paying this year and next year, as you will have changed two variables at the same time ( usage and supplier).Put in what YOU estimate you will be using over the following year (in kWhs).
Also, the existing provider will possibly pass on your historical consumption figures and the new supplier may well use those as a basis for your ongoing DD contributions. If you want to know a guesstimate for actual cost next year, then put your estimation of next year's consumption into the calculator, but it may well be that your new supplier may use your old readings as a more reliable guide.0 -

Well I have in front of me all my usage up until sep 2013 where they forecast the rest of the year based on what they think I will use, therefore they have said 4821 elec and 10897 gas but for 2014 their figures are 5166 elec and 9111 gas. I have used 2014 figures to do quotes but didnt know whether this was right. 2012 figures were 5234 elec and 3678 gas, a hell of a lot lower, dont know where the hell they think I am using all this extra energy when I am in a two bedroomed cottage flat with only 2 people living hereThe only problem with that approach is that it will be difficult to work out a comparison with what you are paying this year and next year, as you will have changed two variables at the same time ( usage and supplier).

I think its confusing too, as my new bill is worked out over 11 months and not 12 this time, hence my monthly payment being £18 less for gas! WHY 11 months?0

Did I not reply to this, already? Where's my post gone?MillicentBystander wrote: »How? Surely it's best to work with historical figures here, i.e the usage over the last 12 months? OK, we may not have such a cold Winter but who actually knows? And please don't say the Met Office
Going mad.
('going'? ha!)
As I already typed, I'm not suggesting they pull the figures out of their backside or thin air. Of course you use your estimate based on your historical usage - I have a better idea of how much I am likely to use than the suppliers' computers.0
