Barclaycard Cashback vs. American Express

I used to use the American Express Cashback Platinum card (which I applied for when the top tier (>£10,000 yearly spend was 1.5%), and a Capital One Aspire World card (0.5% up to £6,000 yearly - unlikely to be spending over that) for everywhere else.
I don't think I spend enough on a non-Amex card to justify the Barclaycard Cashback card for its' £24 annual fee (which isn't available anyway)0 -

Hence why the Aspire World was so popular before it was decommissioned.
Most the people I know with AmEx tend to go for one of the chargecards and MR points rather than cashback and then just play the games to ensure they are maximising the number of "airmiles" they get. When you travel a lot with work a combination of this and directly collected airmiles can make the family holidays very cheap relative to the grade you're travelling0
