I'm looking for a "point and shoot" compact digital camera that has the facility for close ups particularly flowers .....and costs less than £100.
Any recommendations or ones to avoid?

I recommend Panasonic. The important part of the camera is the lens, and Panasonic are built with Leica lenses, one of the most-respected makers.0

I agree Panasonic are excellent. That said, I wanted a small point and shoot that would just slip into a shirt pocket for times when it wasn't convenient to lug around my heavy and large Nikon DSLRs.
I went for the Canon Powershot A2400 IS and I've been very pleased with the results. It's such a contrast to my bigger cameras it did take some getting used to its lightness and smallness in my clumsy hands but after a few days it was fine.
To be honest I just leave it on fully Auto all the time. It does focus very close so macro shots of flowers etc are easily accomplished.

It's been out a while now (about 18 months) but it was around £350 when it came out, so IMHO its still a very good camera for that price.0 -
I recommend looking at Fuji cameras

Compacts are good and the refurbished models offer really good VFM.0 -
I have a Fujifilm A180 and i get excellent shots from this, if i need a point and shoot.
although I am from the old school and enjoy my 35mm SLR and time in the dark room developing my own photos0 -

Panasonic cameras are quite good, but while some of the lenses may have been designed at some stage by Leica, a £200 Panasonic camera does not have the same quality lens as a £5000 Leica. It's good marketing, though.
I'd recommend checking out https://www.dpreview.com for unbiased reviews.1. Have you tried to Google the answer?

Lumix cameras with Leica lenses have lenses made to Leica standards. Does any £200 camera use the same quality lens as a £5000 camera?.
OP Any camera with a macro setting will allow close up pictures of flowers.0 -

Yes they may be "made to Leica standards", but they are not made by Leica, as might have been implied by googler's post. In fact, according to Panasonic:
"Leica DC lenses are manufactured using measurement instruments and quality assurance systems that have been certified by Leica Camera AG"
I still rate them highly, but I don't buy into the marketing hype.1. Have you tried to Google the answer?
