Help Boiler In Death Throws!!!!

Options
we have a very elderely potterton kingfisher boiler which is dying. The polit light went out yesterday and the pilot light ignition switch isnt working  . We have signed on to Glasgow EELLs project but it is a waitning list until end of year. we live in a 3 bedroom victorian flat (conversion) with high ceilings and only have one bathroom. My questions are do we hold out till the end of year (man coming to look at fixing boiler today) or do we bite the bullet and just get a new boiler and what are reasonable costs for a new good reliable boiler and fitting?????

If it's a pilot light issue then it should be a relitively easy fix.

I don't know what the EELLs Project is. I assume its similar to the warmfront grant that's offered in the UK. This grant got us a new boiler when I wasn't working.

If it is a grant scheme as I suspect, then you may be advised to convince them that you need a new boiler. If it is working when you are inspected then you may not get a new one. If it is broken down then they may at first try to repair it for you. If it is beyond economical repair, then they may replace it.

In our case I managed to pursuade the engineer that our boiler was beyond economical repair. It wasn't working when he inspected it and the fault was so severe that a repair was not economic. I sought advice on what type of fault would tip the balance and luckily for me such a fault existed on the boiler at the right time.

Might be a simple fault ! like a blocked pilot jet, thermocouple or at the worst the gas valve these parts are not mega expensive.

Something for you to ponder is that at the end of the year, you will have more success in finding a good supply of rockinghorse !!!!!! than a reliable corgi fitter.
Summer on the other hand is a relatively quiet time for them.

Together we can make a difference.
