Just checked in for our flights, and were only taking hand luggage, 5kg each, I just wondered as we won't need to check in at the airport where is this weighed, will it be at the gate as boarding the plane.
Also if we don't pay for seats is it like Ryanair a free for all, to get on and sit anywhere.
thanks

When you checked in, a seat was allocated - check your boarding pass
Sometimes they weigh hand baggage, sometimes they don't, I've not seen TC weigh at the gate but they may do these daysChange is inevitable, except from a vending machine.0 -
Thomas Cook have been having a bit of a crackdown on hand baggage recently. Too many people absolutely taking the p!ss.0

ooops just realised that I didn't check us in for this flight ( was checking a few other parties in with different airlines at the same time last night. )
I input our api, and it says check in opens 48 hours before the flight. so if I do not pay for seats, will we just be allocated them, and what's the chances of us sitting together.
my friend flew with them the other week, but she had checked in luggage, but at the check in que they weighed her shoulder bag.
If we check in on line, we bypass this and go straight to security, so are they like Ryanair and weigh luggage at the boarding gate.
thanks0 -
If you check in online and haven't paid for seats together then you get randomly allocated seats but according to other people you just keep checking in and saving or aborting depending on what seats you are allocated. This is relatively new so I don't know if they have scales at the boarding desk but I will ask my customers that have recently travelled and feedback to you.0

If they do weigh your bag and it's over 5kg you will have to take stuff out.

It doesn't matter where they weigh your hand luggage (or even whether they weight it at all).
As long as you are not over the 5kg (and within the maximum baggage dimensions for TC), you won't have a problem.

I can't help but wonder where and how long your going for with only 5kg of luggage.0

I slightly struggle with 5kg but my normal 2 week packing is around 6kg if I try.
If I let myself go mad, 8 or 9kg is about my maxChange is inevitable, except from a vending machine.0
