Iphone 4S problems

Evening all,
I'm not sure if this is the right place but I'm looking for some advice regarding my iphone 4s.
Basically, I got back from holiday 4 days ago and since I got back, I can't get onto wifi - it's greyed out - and the battery life is terrible, I'm having to charge it twice a day and that's with barely any use during a working day. I should add that even though the wifi is greyed out, I can use the internet fully at home & using the wireless at work so it's not totally unusable in that respect. The battery life is the bigger problem though, if I go out for the day, the phone will be unusable by mid afternoon. It was fully charged this morning and by 5pm it had 20% life left and I'd had one phone call for 10 minutes and used the internet for around 20 minutes max
Spoke to EE, who got Apple to call me and basically it's a hardware issue. The phone is 18 months old and EE won't do anything as it's out of warranty. Apple want £166 to repair/replace, which is outrageous imo.
I've been on the Apple support site and read hints that I've used on my phone to try to improve things but so far, no difference.
I don't know what to do with regard to pushing EE for a replacement. I can do an early upgrade for almost £190 then sell my phone for most of that cost but should I pursue pushing EE for a repair/replacement or just accept that it's out of warranty and that's that?
Any advice gratefully received, thank you.

Book an appointment with your local Apple Shop Genius Bar - you can do this online - go in, calmly explain what has happened, they *may* offer you a replacement free of charge or a discounted return (which may or may not be cost effective for you).
Also ensure you turn off background processes in settings > general > background processes as these are well known battery suckers - also turn off bluetooth through the bottom swipe when not in use.
Will help your battery life until your get to Apple. Please note, while it is EE's responsibility, its also yours to prove the fault has existed since manufacture - Apple processes are such that they may prove to be the quickest and most effective way to get your issue sorted out.0 -
You could try and push with the sale of goods act... http://www.moneysavingexpert.com/shopping/consumer-rights-refunds-exchangeNo Loans, No Debt, and I want to keep it that way! :money:0

I had this issue with regard to battery, it also wouldn't turn off properly.
After a bit of googling I stumbled across a weird solution to what is apparently quite a common problem.
Lint/fluff/crumbs can end up in the charging bit and drain battery life dramatically. Take a clean toothbrush and clean out the bottom of your phone where you put the charger.
Honestly I know it sounds ridiculous but it made my phone so much better lol, my battery used to drain about 20% per hour even when I wasn't using the phone. The trouble with the world is that the stupid are cocksure and the intelligent are full of doubt.Bertrand Russell0 -
Thanks for the help, I can't get to an Apple store for a while as the nearest one is in London and I have too many weekend plans to go there just yet.
I've turned off various processes on the phone but I will try the cleaning out of the charging area. It's just odd though as it was perfectly fine before I went on holiday 2 weeks ago. I couldn't connect it to the hotel wifi yet DH could connect his and I didn't notice a battery problem then as I wasn't using it. It was only when we arrived back last Thursday that I noticed how quickly the battery was running down and that the wifi is greyed out and won't turn on yet I am able to use the internet perfectly fine.
Thanks again but keep the suggestions coming please!

Also check GPS is not all the time, if it is, check location services under privacy settings to see which apps are using it.0

There's no SOGA issue - the phone is a confirmed classic and as the battery is going to degrade anyway, EE is of no fuse and Apple swill provide the most cost effective solution even if you hadn't opted for the extended maintenance package. 18 months means approx 500 charges so you are getting to the range of degraded longevity.
If the crumbs issue pans out to be the root cause of some issues, the user is responsible for that too - their factory refurb option (complete with a warranty and new battery) is a good deal - I doubt you would beat this, anywhere.0 -
So, I bit the bullet and decided to go for the early upgrade, which has cost me £190. Ordered the phone on Tuesday and yesterday they cut internet off. When I called T-Mobile, they said that was because I've migrated over to EE so they've cut my contract. Agent told me the only way to get internet back was to text a word to a certain number, which I did, only to lose everything.
Meanwhile, the new phone hasn't arrived, delivery was attempted yesterday but I was at work. Courier company unable to deliver to an alternative address so spent 2 hours on the phone to EE attempting to get delivery to my workplace. Was also told their agent should not have told me to text the word/number as that is what has lost me all services on my phone and it's irreversible.
There is more to this but don't want to get too long winded, but it's been a screw up that T-Mobile/EE have done. A duty manager I spoke to assured me she would discuss recompense with me last night, when another agent called me back, the DM had gone home and she's not in until Friday.
So, at this point, I don't know if my new phone is arriving today, I have no service at all with my current phone thanks to an incompetent agent, I'm fuming and wondering what recompense I should find acceptable.....0
