Latvia (Riga and the Coast)

Hi,

Just wondering if anyone has stayed in this area as a summer holiday? We're considering (family of 3 - 1 9yr old daughter) staying for around 10 days in or around Riga or one of the costal areas.

Any hints/tips for somewhere nice? IS this s good family holiday destination?

Thanks in advance.

  • Jūrmala is an impressive resort and less than an hour from Riga. It has long sandy beaches and many amenities including a water park for the kids. It is popular with Russians as well as locals and has a good vibe. A beach holiday in Latvia is a gamble with the weather, but when the sun doesn't shine Riga is only a short train journey away and is a fantastic city to explore.

Thank you - I looked online and it looks great. We fancy somewhere that has beaches and some nice stuff to look at, so think I will do some more research on where to stay.

I get the impression not many Brits go so that would be good too!
  • I was on a stag do in Riga in the summer but we got taxis to Majori (in Jurmala) each day. It's a very nice village (got something of a New Orleans feel to it) and the beach was huge.

Riga is about 15-20Lat each was in a cab.

Don't let the stag do thing put you off by the way - we were probably the only group that ventured out of Riga itself.

That made me chuckle! Sounds like a nice city, something for everyone. It'd be nice not to worry about a car for once, will save loads.

Just need to checkout flight costs properly. Ryanair look like the cheapest at quick glance.
