Is Sunday a working day

I work 20hrs per week over 5 days. For the past 12yrs if I took a weeks holiday, I would finsih on a Sat and return on Monday. I have just booked 1 week hol and this time I am down on the rota to return on the Sunday. I don't feel this is fair as for the past 12yrs it has not been like this and as far as I am aware it hasn't happened to any other member of staff. The Sunday opening has obviously changed things but I didn't think Sat and Sunday are classed as working days when it comes to taking holidays unless you are "Weekend Staff" by contract. Can anyone advise me

What does your contract say about when you are required to work?0 -
Are you getting 20 hrs/5 days/1 week off? If so, I can't see the problem?

Sunday is a working day if the business is open 7 days a week although you can be contracted to work week days.
You could try and argue that your working days are Monday - Friday as you've never been rota'ed in to work a weekend.
or if you work in retail you have the option to not work Sunday's for religious reasons ( i think)0 -

Only if employed prior to 1994.
Sunday is only a working day if your contract says so.0 -
Sunday is a working day if
1 - the business is open
and or

Sunday opening was introduced in 1994, which is more than 12 years ago. So for the last 12 years you have booked seven days holiday and actually got eight? This is unfair how?
Saturday, Sunday and public holidays are all working days - unless your contract says they are not.0 -
Actually, the OP will only have booked five days holiday and the remaining days are simply non-working days. The OP will still have to have two non-working days in the week he/she returns to work.marybelle01 wrote: »So for the last 12 years you have booked seven days holiday and actually got eight? With a five over seven day contract it is virtually inevitable that at some time the working week will start on a Sunday.0 -
OP, is Sunday a normal working day for you or do your 5 days fall on different days each week?Be Alert..........Britain needs lerts.0

Hi. Traditionally if you worked Mon-Fri as a standard week then booking a week off actually meant taking 5 days of your holiday allocation (not 7), but add the weekends and then you have 9 days. This enables you to take a proper weeks holiday and utilise the extra days as travel time. It may be why the o.p. is upset, I would be.
