Cost To Replace Patio Doors

Options
Hi, I need to replace my patio doors, which are UPVC in a wooden frame. I want to replace with new UPVC doors and frame. Can anyone advise the best in terms of security and quality. Also what should I expect to pay? Many thanks.

I'm having mine done in a couple of weeks looking at about £850 + vat. They are quite wide so you may get them cheaper depending on width etc. Its a local guy who is doing mine not national.
So dont know specific brands etc.
I think its sometimes better checking with others who have had work done already word of mouth re: window companies get advice & shop around.

It will depend on size and quality, i am currently in the process of getting my windows and 2 sets of patio doors fitted one of which is standard the other has side panels.

For a standard 5 to 6 foot patio door i would budget around £1500 all in. Make sure it has a decent multi point locking system, fully welded frames is internally glazed and has a trickle vent if necessary.

WE paid last August just over 1k for patio doors (they were quite wide and both opened outward came with metal things to do doors opening to wide and hitting the walls) this included about 20 bricks and a angle iron for support. It was a local company and has good reputation for quality.

The glass also was filled with argon to reflect heat back in.

I paid 650 plus VAT for a set of french doors made to measure. I chose leaded squares on the glazing, which adds to the cost. I fitted them myself and it took me a couple of hours. I don't normaly fit upvc doors and windows but I am fitting them in our own house.

B and Q are doing standard 4 ft french doors for £200. They comply with all the building regs. If you've got a standard opening and can get someone to fit them for you (£100 max) that would be a great saving. You don't get a huge amount of choice wrt the glazing etc

I've just taken mine out and replaced with patio doors from wickes. Frame and doors were about £300 (I can't remember exact figure). Fitted myself.

They look great now. Much better than the old alliminium ones I had in previously.

I think "french doors" are susposed to be better for security. My husband insisted we got french rather than patio (he also said patio are a little old fashioned now, no offence), security being one of the key features.

Less chance of walking into them & I think they do look better.

If its a really big gap (over 1.8m) I think french doors work out quite expensive. You can even buy small ones (less than 1.8) off the shelf in B&Q and Wicks ect.

    Ours were 2 meters:mad:
  • Thanks all, hadn't considered French doors, might think about them instead!

Contact Kat uk on 01625 439666. I think they make the best patio I have seen in a long time. They have a unique 8 hook lock and ask for shootbolts to be fitted too. Although they only deal with trade suppliers, if you call them they will give you the name of local installers I have dealt with these guys for a long time and the only time a patio came in minus a part (the cill) they hired a 7.5ton lorry (had to be that for the length) and paid a driver to get me the part to site on time.
However still ask your friends etc for their recommendations, to pick a good installer, they (the installer) will source a specific product for you if asked.
