Saving some money on electricity
Something we have just done in our home basement to save money was change the lighting to LED. I believe that the Led market is starting to mature, there are now some good consumer products on the market. We have just changed our lighting to a a Megaman 7 watt Led, this will dim effective and looks great. We have a basement with lounge and dinning area, wherewe had 22 x 50wat low voltage lamps fitted until recently. So were pulling 1100 watts of power, the new LEDS are only consuming 154 watts of power. We made a big decision to change them to a 7 watt LED, and after a lot of searching managed to find a bulb we could retrofit into our existing transformers/fittings. The outcome has been really pleasing and is is providing comfortable warm lighting. Admittedly they are not as warm as the old halogen bulbs and the CRI isn't so good, but its certainly more than acceptable, these lamps are way better than earlier generation LED's...
I think a saving of 90% of the power consumed was worth the £250 pounds invested, we will now save some money on our yearly fuel bill and then we can refurb another floor !
