Re taking sweets back, good on you but I am surprised they took them back, which supermarket was it?

It was T*sco, and thank you!
That's a bit cheeky isn't it? I can understand the towels, but the sweets? And there was nothing wrong with them? I'm surprised the shop let you do that.

To me, that's like buying... say, two jars of pasta sauce, and only using one, so taking the other back. You wouldn't. You'd just use it some other time.

Is that only strange to me?

It's maybe a little cheeky, but it's one of the ways I justify shopping at T*sco after the horsemeat scandal and considering how much food they throw out at the end of each day instead of giving it to food banks and how much money they fleece out of people who don't have the time to read forums like this, I don't feel bad at all. I'd rather it was sitting in their warehouses than in my cupboards, and the money was sitting in my pocket (which they've been earning interest on in the time since I bought it). I don't have the space to keep stuff I'm not going to (or shouldn't) eat, and by next Halloween we'll probably have moved so I'm not going to pack up a bag of sweets just to it can be given out next year!

I was a little shocked to be honest and really don't think shops should be doing this.

You're suggesting shops shouldn't allow you to take things back???

My mother has taken a large tub of haribo back to Mr T's that she didn't open. She is diabetic, and if she leaves them in the house she will eat them (she can't resist) and to be honest to can't afford to eat them (healthwise). They had no problems taking them back.

I guess it just depends on the individual circumstance. In my house, the kids would get them at a later date, but if you seriously don't/can't eat sweets then why keep them??

Can't see the problem myself, and most certainly don't see it as cheeky. A little gutsy maybe, not many people would have the guts to do it

In other news.... a NSD here!!! Yeah!!! :j:j:j

Spend day today! Aldi first and that was 3.99...rolls, eggs and carrots! Then Asda..baking things and basics for 23.87. I now dislike asda shopping as it seems too expensive compared to Aldi! But DS requested some 'proper' branded things and offered to pay for them! (Mainly fizzy nastyness, he's 17, they are HIS teeth!)

  • considering how much food they throw out at the end of each day instead of giving it to food banks

I didn't know you could return food just because you 'changed your mind' so to speak, but it's interesting to know you can do it, will need to remember that one. However someone I know volunteers at a food bank, and they can't accept perishable items like veg or meat, even if it's still edible by our standards. They just can't accept liability for giving out something past its sell-by/best before. Daft I know, but it could be sat in the food bank for a few days, and they don't have fridges/freezers for anything.

I stopped by the shop on my way home to pick up a can of something caffeinated for work tomorrow. They didn't have any cans, so I was very good, and bought myself a packet of pro-plus, ignored all the food, and came out again. Even though they had my favourite yoghurt YS, I didn't need it, so I put it back.

I do have it in me sometimes, I just seem to ignore it half the time! :o

    Gammon is very versatile.
    QUOTE]

One of our favourite left-overs meals is with Gammon.

Very easy - micro some finely chopped leeks, add to chopped LO gammon and some HM cheese sauce. Top with cheese and breadcrumbs and reheat/brown in combi oven. Have with loads of creamy mash or croquettes and peas. YUM :)

OMG - I simply love Black Pudding but it has to be from the butcher.. Some HM bubble and squeak, bacon, grilled toms, B. Beans, poached egg and Black Pudding - Heaven on a Plate. Making my mouth water :rotfl:

Seem to be on a food kick tonight - need some comfort food tomorrow methinks.

    NSD today

Have a good day - hope it's warmer

Declaring this week at £67.81/£60. £21 spent in morrisons tonight (was £112 before discount and saver stamps). I got everything I needed for this week, clothes for my son, some Christmas food and 3 bottles of alcohol. Really pleased despite going £7 over budget.

Morrisons have a good deal on whole chickens. £1.75 per kilo (half price). I got a 2.2kg chicken for just over £4

Dinner was gnocchi bake and garlic bread. I make my own tomato sauce (I blend vegetables into it to hide them from my son) and had enough left over to fill 2 500g butter tubs which are now in the freezer..

    Hi K9
I know you said pasta dish but would a baked potato dish do?

Sliced peppers, garlic and onion roasted, then layered with thin sliced potatoes and cheese sauce, several layers, and topped with cheese and breadcrumbs. Very yummy :)

Hi Lynne and thanks for the suggestion.Doesn't have to be pasta no, just wouldn't have occurred to me to use potatoes.Sounds lovely. Managed to squeeze the peppers in fridge, but had no time to chop as of yet; will hopefully be able to try that recipe soon and chop extra peppers at the same time.

I was hoping for a NSD today, but one of my cats needs indoor biscuits ( as she needs to loose weight and hardly goes out); but my other "naughty" cats keep pinching them and vice versa. Would be too easy for them if they could just eat their own!

Some great meal ideas on the last few pages:j

I spent £7.25 in the last two days on odds and ends mainly snacks. I am going to slow cook a large joint of beef today, any ideas for the left overs? I really could do with it stretching to a second meal for the four of us :o
