Single oven & microwave or Double oven?

Evening all

So we are in a dilemma...

We had always planned on having an induction hob over a built under double oven in our new kitchen design.

However, on going to Appliance City today we were advised that this wouldn't work, as there wouldn't be the space to fit both to allow sufficient ventilation? I'd heard varying views on whether the two work together, but given where we are buying them from has advised against it, its hard to go with it for fear of it not working.

And so now we are left with the difficult choice of Double Oven & a gas hob, or a Single Oven and possibly get a decent microwave to supplement?

Welcome any thoughts??
Cheers
Steve

    Perhaps a combination microwave.

That's what I mean really, combination microwave.

What are they like? Would they help with Xmas dinner for example?

We've gone for two separate built under single ovens, side by side - fed up of juggling when cooking!

If you need two cooking cavities a single oven and microwave isnt going to work and you need a single oven + combination microwave. We careful though. There are combination microwaves (which are essentially microwaves with a bit of oven and grill functionality) and compact multifunction ovens with microwaves which are more ovens than microwaves. The former is not to be purchased as a second oven but will do the job when required. The latter will work as an oven or grill in its own right.

I cant see why you cant provide adequate ventilation for a built under double and hob. It might be a case of pulling the floor units 50mm off the wall and installing vent grilles in the plinth to provide air flow. Check it carefully. Its do-able.

    I've recently got a Panasonic NN-CF778SBPQ Combination Microwave, replacing a microwave/grill and mini-oven

It's great. Although I have a double-oven range cooker, I never use these now.

Doing Xmas lunch in the combi...hmm, well maybe need a practise run.

I've had a built in combination microwave as well as a single fan oven in my last 2 kitchen installations & is something I'd go for in future kitchen installations too.

My combi oven isn't as large as my actual main oven is, but is perfect as an additional cooking aid when needed & is also very handy for using for smaller meals, being that it works out more cost effective to use rather than the main oven.
The bigger the bargain, the better I feel.

I should mention that there's only one of me, don't confuse me with others of the same name.

I'd also recommend a good combination oven/microwave and a single oven it's a really good combination. We went for Neff and have been really happy, we probably use the combi more than the straight oven :-)

If you're installing a new kitchen perhaps you could consider installing the ovens at worktop level, I find them much more convenient compared to one near the floor.

We have the previous model to this which has a turntable - super piece of kit at 8 years old and for the just two of us, our main oven is never used.

Just waiting for ours to go west and we are down to Costco - can't do roasties for 8 on our turntable but on a rectangular dish?

We looked at double built under oven vs single oven. I would suggest you consider how low the bottom door is. Often in store they are mounted higher than they will be in your kitchen. My advice is work out where the top of the door is and then find a free standing cooker with the same door height, try that and see if you are happy with it. We found it far too low. Of course best is an eye level double oven/grill in a tower.
