Hello all
I bought a sandisk ultra 2 4gb a number of years ago. Unfortunately, the lock switch has broken. I contacted sandisk in case it might be in warranty and they've asked me to send it to their depot by tracked mail to their depot in the Czech Republic! This will cost me about £5 so I'm thinking about the pros and cons of doing this.
The great thing about this card is it connects straight to my computer to allow me to upload photos via USB. I haven't seen any other cards like this and it looks like they've been discontinued. Ideally, I'd like a card with larger capacity and the usb conversion feature.
Anyone got any ideas of something similar? I'm thinking about upgrading and not bothering sending it back given the cost.

Errm... If you have a 4GB SD card that is faulty and it came with a USB reader ... that USB reader will work with any other SD card.
The reason you don't see many packaged together is that the SD card reader bit is often built into laptops and PCs nowadays so they are sold separately.
Pics of the bits might help to be sure.
You are right that it could well be cheaper to buy new than pay £5 postage - but why not just send it back without tracking and see if it arrives and is replaced for the cost of a stamp?
However if it's one of these http://www.amazon.co.uk/SanDisk-Ducati-Edition-Memory-Built/dp/B003RY1WIA/ref=sr_1_5?ie=UTF8&qid=1382372040&sr=8-5&keywords=4GB+sd+card+plus+usb+reader they are still available but highly expensive. [Do check other places to buy from, and other sellers on Amazon my link is just an example].0 -
Sorry Rodders, my fault, I should've been clearer. Thanks for your reply. Yes it is the type you have in the amazon link. Here's the type of thing I mean....http://www.amazon.co.uk/SanDisk-Super-Speed-Ultra-Memory-Built/dp/B003RY6QHC/ref=sr_1_9?ie=UTF8&qid=1382377848&sr=8-9&keywords=4Gb+ultra+sandisk+2
That's a good idea, I didn't even think about sending it back untracked! I might do that. And I've only just realised that my laptop does indeed have an SD card reader!
Will try posting it back untracked and see where we go from there. Will have a look at higher capacity ones as well as it would be nice to film a bit more. Any particular recommendations on higher capacity cards?0 -
I almost fell off my chair when I saw the cost of those cards on Amazon...£42.99 for 2x4GB cards!!!
You could save yourself megabucks by buying an SDHC with a USB card reader, or even an SDHC card with built-in Wi-Fi.
Check out mymemory(dot)co(dot)uk, I've used them for years and are very good value for money.
P.S. Some old laptops might not be able to read SDHC cards so check before buying anything.0 -
Thanks, I've ordered a new SD card from 7dayshop in the end as they offered the fastest, cheapest cards.0
