Should I switch to...dun dun duuurrn NPower!?

OK so Ive been with EDF for a while now with no hassles what-so-ever but now these prices are hiking up Im considering the switch to a fixed (currently on EDF standard).

Ive just done the Cheap Energy Club test which says I could save but its throwing up NPower as being the suitable choice. This has my concern because of all the bad reviews Im reading about them.

Worth a go do you think?...I can always change again if they prove real bad right? (not entirely sure how the changing works you see).

Thanks

Andy

What is the price difference between the nPower fix and the cheapest EDF fix? If it isn't much then you might want to pay slightly more to avoid nPower, plus sticking with EDF would mean you can change your tariff instantly rather than waiting 6 weeks.

Companies always look worse than they are when you research on the internet, purely because people are far more likely to complain on the internet rather than praise. nPower's new billing system is meant to be dodgy though so there is a legitimate cause for concern there.

Personally I would always demand compensation if screwed around like some people on this forum have been, and sometimes that requires the ombudsman's interference. Of course most people simply switch and have no problems.

Good point DragonQ. From what I can figure I only save a small bit and after reading more Npower reviews I think I can do without the hassle which there seems a higher chance of.

Think Ill see what EDF can offer.

    Thanks for the input!

... because, if I switched today to the 2017 fixed deal, I'd get a slightly (very) cheaper deal, fixed prices to December 2017 (whereas EDF's are only fixed till March 2017) - plus £15 cashback, if I switch today via energyhelpline.com!

I'm nervous about NPower because of what I've read about them in the past (and my own dealings with them a couple of years back on behalf of a relative), but - according to energyhelpline.com - they currently have a 3-star rating, whereas EDF only has 2.

What's going on there? I'm sure when I checked a few weeks ago EDF had 4?!

Its about prices these days not customer services, I have been a customer of most, edf, npower, bg, eon and they all have their faults.
Don't put your trust into an Experian score - it is not a number any bank will ever use & it is generally a waste of money to purchase it. They are also selling you insurance you dont need.

... talking of which, having seen what dannynolan has to say at https://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/discussion/4415595, I'm wondering whether it's worth switching to a 2017 fix at all!

I've been with NPower since it became Npower and have only ever had one small problem.

The wording on the renewal letter, last year, gave the impression that one had to request a new fixed tariff on the day it started, rather than ordering ahead and this meant that I was charged standard prices for a day. I complained on principle, as though costing me pence , this multiplied by a large number of customers would be a tidy some.

I got a refund, plus £20 credit and the letters' wordings have been changed.

Also, I've always found customer service staff to be both helpful and friendly. As someone has said, in general, it's the people with problems who report them, while the satisfied make no comment.
