Hi all, I'm after some advice. I have made a claim on my house insurance for accidental damage to my plasma tv, the insurance company have accepted but want to give me vouchers that are far far lower than the amount I paid for my tv, I'm very upset as I paid £1600 for a 42"Philips Ambilight and the insurance want to give me £300 minus £100 excess, which would leave me with £200 to buy a tv. This is not fair and I would be grateful of any advice

How old is the original tv?0

You don't have to accept the first offer they make.
And as Dacouch says, you need to say how old the TV is.
If its quite old, you may be able to get the same spec for £300 is.
I paid that for mine about 8 years ago and would think I was getting a bargain if they gave me £300, for it. After all, I have had 8 years use out of it. I'd be lucky if I got £100 selling it second hand.make the most of it, we are only here for the weekend.
and we will never, ever return.0 -
They appear to have carried out a comparison with a comparable set and possibly with the use of their preferred supplier have come up with the price they have offered.
If this is the case their policy is likely to give them the option to replace damaged property but your argument will be if you don't consider it is like for like (or as close as possible)
You might need to do this comparison yourself.
This is a common problem with electrical goods because of advances in technology and price reductions.0 -

Check your policy wording.
Normally you get new for old not market value.0 -
One of the problems will be the rarity of such small plasmas these days and so getting a comparable model to base a price on is difficult. For example the Panasonic TXP42X60 is £329 at the moment from Richer Sounds and Panasonics screens were the best after Pioneer pulled out of plasma and so probably better than your old Philips screen.
With electronics you pay heavily to be on the bleeding edge and they depreciate massively as soon as the next years model comes out let alone a couple of years0
