Can I pay a years worth of energy upfront ? ?

Doubt it. Would be a nice option though since it'd surely involve some kind of discount.0

You can make lump sum payments into an edf account online using your debit or credit card0

You can pay upfront if you like - but you will be billed quarter by quarter with any future price rises taken into account, not charged today's prices.0

If they can over-estimate and increase your DD so that a credit builds up, you would have thought you can. But you can never tell what these computers will do. If you have no legs, so posting a cheque is difficult, you can bet that it will insist on sending you a cheque.0

You can read your meter and give them a reading. Perhaps your reading will show that you have used an awful lot of energy over the summer, so you will get a big bill now (paying for lots of energy at the old price).0

Several years ago my meter was estimated by almost double the reading. As it was just before a large increase, I paid it and had the joy of having virtually no bill for the next three months. Apart from dealing with a very bewildered meter reader I had no problems. The best portion of your life will be the small, nameless moments you spend smiling with someone who matters to you.0

I used to let them estimate (they always over did it for winter) and pay that promptly when the then quarterly bill came in - as it was a tariff with 2-tiers unit prices it was obviously to my advantage as I would give them a reading in April or thereabouts and wouldn't then have to pay anything for months (when it would all be at the more expensive tier price)
Now free from the incompetence of vodafail0 -
The approach of the last two posters doesn't always work.......they will sometimes go back to recalculate previous bills on the basis of erroneous estimated meter readings -which can result in an unpleasant surprise!0

They never did
but then in my case that was maybe 10 years ago when they probably just couldn't be bothered really.
It's not like I gave them wrong readings or anything - just let them estimate and gave a customer read once a year (just at a "convenient" time for me
). Now free from the incompetence of vodafail0
