It's been given a good service now at season end. I'm a little bit concerned about this due to the fact there is a little of strimming left to be done this season and it won't be fresh for the start of next season unless another service is done?
  • Have you cleaned the Spark arrester ? (where the fumes come out ) these can get clogged up making it run slow or even stop, most have a wire mesh that just needs a clean.

    Follow up post/question from me.
Used my Stihl Kombi rotavator two weeks ago and all was well.
Last night I went to blow leaves off a neighbour's drive. It started up fine but after a while, when I took my finger off the throttle it would sound rough and the revs dropped way below the normal idle sound. Before it stalled I'd give it a bit of gas and all was well. This happened a few times.

I've had it two years, never been serviced and it's rarely used (it's more a boy's toy than a heavily used bit of gear).

Any thoughts on what I should look at first (or links to manuals for taking it apart)?

  • Fresh petrol? if so it sounds like the carb may need tuning a bit.

Checked the air filter - it was OK. Went to check the spark plug but couldn't remove it as it's a 17mm (roughly) plug and the only spark plug sockets I have are for cars. The one that came with the Stihl was a 13/19.

I'm considering that it could be the fuel, but since I'll be draining it for winter soon, I'd like to make sure it goes away in the best condition. Might have a tweak at the carb later.

    Thanks

Just a little update on my as it's back with the repair person.

    1. Visit one - the serviced the strimmer and changed the spark plug.

This left the strimmer running but very poorly so I returned it.

    2. Visit two - I was told it was dead petrol so the fuel was replaced, this didn't improve the strimmer at all.

    3. Visit three - The strimmer was re-tuned. This improved the running of the strimmer greatly, however it now cuts out too much and is difficult to re-start afterwards.

    4. The strimmer is back at the repair workshop.
