unsure when to switch

I defo want to change my supplier but I am tied in with dual fuel with british gas until nov 16th and would cost me £40 to leave and go else where so my question is do I wait until 16th nov and change that day or can I set the date to change from the 16th if I do it all now, without a charge or would I still get charged?

You cannot set the date of a supplier switch.

If BG have already contacted you, then you will have been invited to choose a new tariff from them and that could be started from the expiry of your existing deal.

Otherwise it takes a minimum of 3 weeks to switch supplier, so don't apply to switch more than 3 weeks in advance otherwise you risk being switched before the expiry date and so incurring early exit fees.

Don't forget that if you switch through one of the cashback sites, you may get some money back which will offset any exit fees you may be charged.
