I keep reinstalling the latest version of java and removing previous versions but it still comes up with
My Java version is 7 update 45
My version of Firefox is 25. is there a reliable alpha version rather than the betas it forces me to use?
Twitter pictures are unreliable as well, some materialise others don't
all plugins up to date except flash doing that now

If you're worried about beta versions being unreliable, then you don't want to switch to alpha - which are earlier in the development cycle.
But, if you do want to go onto the Firefox alpha software, it's called Aurora and is currently version 26.0a2.
The current stable release is version 24.0, which you can find here:
http://www.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/all/
But, your issue might well be that you are "removing previous versions". Try installing the update but NOT removing the old versions - see if that works. The downloads tend to be patches to fix previous bugs, rather than the complete source code.1. Have you tried to Google the answer?

Actually now the new version of Flash is loaded the java isn't causing problems anymore.
Twitter pictures still not loading, but can live with that. I may try Aurora, thanks.0 -
It's a bad idea to run the java plugin in your browser unless you really, really need it, it's a major security risk.
There's very few websites that require it anymore (Although there are a couple of banks).
If you want to disable it just in your browser, goto
control-panel/Java/Security and you'll find a checkbox to disable it.0 -
Java problems returned. Actually it could be a problem with the site because others are having the same issue

does it matter if you trust the site?0
